The Delhi Police started two-weeks long ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’, a special cleanliness campaign, in the sub city today. The drive was launched as a joint initiative of Delhi Police and the residents to involve the community, RWAs and market associations in the cleanliness drives. Dwarka News
The event was organised by the police at three places today – Sector 23, 10 and 12. Women police personnel participated in large numbers in cleaning the area along with locals. During the two-weeks campaign, the police will clean the area and its own police stations.
At Sector 23 Mall, ACP Rajender Singh and his team along with the residents of various societies from the area carried out a cleanliness drive. At Ashirvad Chowk in Sector 12, the drive was led by the Additional DCP of the area, SK Meena. They cleaned the market premises and urged the people to keep it clean.
At Sector 10 maket, the campaign was led by DCP of the area Anto Alphonse. Joint Commissioner of Police Madhup Tiwari also joined the campaign and discussed the importance of the drive with the residents.
Tiwari said the campaign would be carried out for a fortnight, culminating on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2). “In these two weeks, we plan to connect a large number of RWAs, community people and market associations with the campaign so that the cleanliness drive carries forward later on also,” he said.
Tiwari further said the campaign would be carried out in DDA pockets also and those who will not follow the simple steps to keep the area clean will be made given a lesson through “Gandhigiri”. Banners spreading the aims of the drive would be put on the gates of societies and market areas, Tiwari explained.
General Secretary of Federation of Cooperative Group Housing Societies, Dwarka, Sudha Sinha was also present at the occasion. She said the federation would give its full support to make the campaign successful.
Vice president of Dharam Apartments, Sector 18, Nitin Meta who is also a Police Mitra, has been coordinating with South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to lift the garbage collected during the drive. He said, “We will keep doing such things along with the police. It’s encouraging to see people joining hands to make this work.”
