After years of struggle, Ahinsa Khand II finally set for its water pipeline

Residents of Ahinsa Khand II, Indirapuram, can finally hope for respite from the water crisis that has plagued the area. The GDA has started the work of laying down the pipeline, and construction has already begun from Swarna Jayanti Park in Niti Khand II.

Executive engineer Manvendra Singh informed that the new pipeline will supply water from an overhead tank at Swarna Jayanti Park. This water, he added, would be a mix of groundwater and treated Ganga water. Indirapuram News

“The water will be supplied for six hours in a day — three hours in morning and three hours in the evening," he confirmed.

January 2019 has been set as the deadline for the completion of the project.

Ahinsa Khand II comprises more than 20 high-rises, where hundreds of thousands of residents struggle to fulfil their daily  water requirements. Currently, the water is supplied merely for an hour in the day, and owing to feeble pressure it sometimes fails to reach upper floors.

Even after paying water tax to the GDA, residents were forced to use submersible pumps to meet daily water requirement.

Commenting on the development, president of Federation of Apartments Owners Association (FedAOA), Alok Kumar, said, “It’s the result of the long battle that the residents and the FedAOA fought with the authority. Even after various meetings with officials and multiple field inspections, the issue could not be resolved until we finally filed petition with the National Green Tribunal. Finally, work has started.”

For many years, the residents had been demanding a water pipeline, but were unable to have any response from the GDA.  Finally, they knocked the gates of the high court.

The high court ordered the GDA to bring FedAOA in the scenario and resolve matter under its supervision.
