CM announces more funds for upkeep of parks and gardens

Delhi CM announced yesterday that the state government would double the financial assistance from the existing Rs 1 lakh per acre to Rs 2 lakh per acre to RWAs and NGOs registered with the Delhi Parks and Gardens Society (DPGS). The boost will result in better maintenance of parks and gardens.

Under the scheme — he said while addressing over 261 RWAs and NGOs from across Delhi at his residence — 90 percent of the aid will be borne out by the government and balance by RWAs or NGOs. Delhi News

The Chief Minister also requested the participants to get their damaged borewells and motors repaired with government support in the next 10 days. They were asked to submit request letters to the DPGS.

He urged RWAs to adopt more parks to increase the capital city’s green footprint.

During the session, RWAs spoke of issues plaguing maintenance— inadequate financial assistance, scarcity of water, requirement of tree guards for protecting newly planted saplings, lack of funds to pay gardeners and others.

Other issues, such as installation of CCTV cameras, safety of women in public places like parks, were also discussed. The CM asked the RWAs to approach Swati Maliwal, chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), for issues related to safety of women at helpline number 181 or at livingpositive@gmail.com
