Huda starts monsoon preparations; demolishes houses for expansion of drain

As a preparation for monsoon which is expected to hit Gurgaon in first week of July, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) on Saturday went ahead with the demolition drive in Khandsa village as part of the expansion plans for the Badshahpur drain.

After the massive flooding which hugely affected the commuters on July 28, 2016, the state government had decided to expand the width of 600-metre long Badshahpur drain so that the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway does not get affected during heavy rains.

A Huda official informed that the width of Badshahpur drain will be doubled to 20 metres. During the 2016 rains, the Badshahpur drain got badly choked at Hero Honda Chowk.

A Huda team spearheaded by enforcement officer Hari Singh Jakhar carried out demolition drive in police protection. Although there were opposition from owners and residents, the team was successful in demolishing 4 houses and 3 shops.

Jakhar informed that few plot owners resisted the demolition by demanding alternative plots and compensation but they continued with the demolition as Huda has already awarded them compensation.

“The compensation was decided as per the Huda’s relief and rehabilitation policy. Only one house is left now in the entire stretch and its owner has agreed to get the house demolished in the next few days,” Jakhar said.

Huda administrator Chander Shekhar Khare said that they are now going to start the construction of box type drain as it is very important for the discharge of rainwater.

Huda officials said that alternative plots have been allotted in Sector-37C to the 35 of the property owners on the Khandsa stretch. They further said that there are some property owners who are yet to vacate the properties as they haven’t yet got possession of alternative plots.
