Gzb: Relocation of liquor shops brings relief for Crossings Republik residents

Residents of Mahagun Mascot, a high rise in Crossings Republik, Ghaziabad can relax now as liquor shops which had been set up near their society have been shifted. The shops had been opened on April 1 in Mahagun Mart, a commercial area right next to the society’s compound.

However, protests erupted within a short period as the society’s residents claimed that the shops would draw anti-social elements who would resort to open drinking among other activities. These protests took various forms and the residents resorted to activities like bhajan keertan to get themselves heard. Further, the residents even approached the district collectorate to get the shops removed. ghaziabad news

The Apartment Owners Association (AoA) of Mahagun Mascot had also locked out a small gate which opened towards the commercial area and was used by the society’s residents for quick trips to the shops located there. The gate has been reopened now.

The liquor shops were shifted to a shack located a few hundred meters away from the society on Tuesday.

“All the residents are happy and relieved. We had been protesting for a month now. The gate towards the commercial area has been reopened and is being used by residents now. The order had been passed by the district administration sometime back and the shops were shifted yesterday,” said Vikas Kamboj, a resident of Mahagun Mascot society.

“We are thankful to whoever supported our cause and the shops have been finally shifted. Residents are happy and relieved,” said Sudhanshu Gupta, another resident of the society.
