Noida: UPPCL launches drive against power theft, FIR lodged against 12 persons


The officials of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) on Tuesday started a 100-day campaign to check power theft in the state.

On the second day of the campaign, six different teams have conducted raids in Noida. During the raids, the teams caught two dozen people who were involved in power theft.

An FIR has been lodged against 11 consumers and a lineman for their involvement in power theft. Others have been penalised for power theft. Noida News

A total of Rs 41 lakh has been fined for irregularities in loads and thefts. During the first phase of the campaign, old and small consumers have been scrutinised.

A team, which had officials from the city of Meerut, conducted raids in Sector-18 in Noida and also checked load in this area. The team found irregularities at many places and they collected fines from the power defaulters.

A K Singh, an official of electricity department said that superintendent engineer Rakesh Gupta and executive engineer S P Narayan conducted raids at Atta market area in Sector-18 on Tuesday.

Singh informed that many power connections were snapped for non-payment.

The officer-in-charge of the team, Rakesh Kumar, said that chances of power theft increase due to use of air-conditioner and coolers during summer.

The teams have already scrutinised more than 400 connections so far. The team will continue with raids to check power theft in the city.
