Two men have been booked by Gurgaon police for allegedly duping people on the pretext of getting their wards admissions in prestigious colleges. However, after allegedly charging a huge amount from admission seekers, the accused closed their office in Sushant Lok 1 and absconded.
Two cases of fraud and cheating were registered against the accused — identified as Neeraj Singh and Atul Anand — at Sushant Lok police station on Friday under sections 406, 420 and 120 B of the Indian Penal Code, said the police.
The complainant, Dr KV Naidu, said the accused had been posing as education consultants with a wide network of contacts in medical colleges. He contacted them for his daughter’s admission, met them at their office and handed over ₹5 lakh as admission fees in March 2017. The men continued to promise him admission and when that did not happen, started making excuses.
After some time, the accused stopped picking up their phones and closed their office. Naidu then approached the police and complained against the duo. A case of cheating was registered against them on Friday.
Both the accused also duped Sector 45 resident Akshat Garg of ₹5 lakh by promising him admission in a prestigious institution, but vanished after taking the amount. Garg complained to the police, which registered a case under sections 406, 420 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code at the Sector 29 police station.
The police have said that they are probing the matter and suspect that there could be more such cases. “The matter is being probed and the accused will be nabbed,” said Ravinder Kumar, PRO, Gurgaon police.
