Sewer overflow near MCG office fixed

The overflow from a sewage pipeline near the MCG office in Civil Lines yesterday and day before led to waterlogging in the area, severely impacting movement for those heading towards Civil Hospital.

“Multiple pumps were installed at the spot and water was drained out from the area,” confirmed Mukesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of MCG.

According to MCG officials, a drain near the government school was clogged for two days, and once it was fixed, the sudden gush of drain water overflowed towards the main road.

Sewage water also entered a nearby government school.

Things got particularly bad on Tuesday, especially for those heading towards Civil Hospital.

The four-lane Jharsa road, which has the MCG office, Civil Hospital, local market and a government senior secondary school, witnesses heavy traffic, and the overflow made matters worse.

Aayush Sharma, a resident of Civil Lines, said, “I needed an X-ray at Civil Hospital, but faced difficulties in reaching the place. Left with no choice I had to take an auto-rickshaw to cover the last 100 metres.”

Another resident of Civil Lines added, “There was practically one lane for vehicles to head towards Sadar bazaar. I was able to move the 100 m stretch after being stuck for over 25 minutes.”
