Three schools in Noida have decided to shut down classes from Nursery to Class V in view of the dangerously high levels of air pollution in the Delhi-NCR in the last couple of days.
The schools include Amity International School in Sector 44, Presidium School in Sector 93 and Sapphire International School in Sector 70.
Shailendra Baranwal, a resident of Supertech Capetown, told City Spidey that he received a message from Amity International School at around 9 pm, saying school will remain closed from Nursery to Class V today and tomorrow due to smog.
Presidium School, too, will remain closed for two days, but Sapphire International School will remain closed only today.
Renu Singh, principal of Amity International School, said, “We will take further decision according to the levels of pollution. Outdoor activities of school will also remain suspended and even the assembly is being conducted in the classroom by the teachers.”
BN Singh, District Magistrate of GB Nagar, told City Spidey that he had not sent out any notices to schools in this regard. He added, “All measures are being taking by the district administration to curb pollution. We are taking the advice from the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board and Environment Pollution (Prevention & Control) Authority.”
According to PCB officials, Noida reported “critical” air quality this morning, with an AQI of 600. Visibility remained low.
