The CBI has detained a Class XI student of the Commerce stream from Ryan International School, Bhondsi, for his involvement in the murder of 8-year-old Pradyuman Thakur on September 8.
The student was detained at midnight and interrogated four times, and according to sources, has confessed to the murder.
According to sources, the boy had told his friends to not study for the exams, as they would be postponed, implying some prior knowledge of the incident. The CBI has seemingly also recovered the murder weapon. But Gurgaon Police had earlier produced a knife, claiming it to be the murder weapon; it was also sent for forensic examination. Now, the credibility of Gurgaon Police stands questioned. breaking news gurgaon
The father of the boy is a lawyer at Sohna Court, and alleges that his son has been framed and forced to confess the crime. He also stated that his son was, in fact, the first to inform the teachers about the incident.
Speaking about the development, Supreme Court lawyer on the case, Sushil Tekriwal, said, “The CBI is inspecting all angles, and conspiracy by senior teachers is not ruled out. We are thankful to the CBI for bringing about a breakthrough in this case. As per the new amendment in the Juvenile Act, if the accused is aged between 16 and 18 years, he is to be tried as an adult.”
The CBI took over the case on September 22 after the school's bus conductor, Ashok Kumar, the prime accused, denied committing the crime. He had confessed to the murder at the time of the arrest but had later retracted his statement, said Kumar's lawyer. Now there's a possibility that he may be found "not guilty".
The CBI report is now awaited, following which a defamation case could be filed against Gurgaon Police for framing the conductor.
The student has been produced today at Juvenile Justice Court at Vikas Sadan.
