Dwarka on Sunday got a brand-new cricket ground at Chhawla in L-Zone.
The chairman of Women’s Cricket Delhi and former patron, vice-president
Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) Suresh Chopra inaugurated the
ground by pinch hitting a few deliveries across the boundary.
“This is one of the finest cricket grounds in Delhi,” he said, adding
that “it will benefit a lot of budding cricketers in the area”. Dwarka News
The infrastructure could be used to promote women's cricket as well, Chopra said.
“I am very happy to come here, and I assure you that whatever support
is needed I will try to give for the development of the game. More such
grounds are needed in the national capital. Be it the ground made by
the authorities or private bodies, one thing is clear - such
infrastructure will help in the development of sports culture in Delhi,”
Chopra said.
Present on the occasion were MLA of Matiala Gulab Singh Yadav, who
promised to make every effort possible to promote sports culture in the
assembly constituency. When on the ground, he also did not let go of any
chance of having a go at batting in the nets.
“I am also a cricket and hockey player. So I love sports and am determined to promote it in the area,” he said.
Among other dignitaries from the area were councillor of Chhawla, Pawan Sharma and social activist Madhuri Rawat Varshney.
