To ease last-mile connectivity, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will launch e-rickshaws at HUDA City Metro Station at 5 pm on today.
The rickshaws will, hopefully, bring an end to the tyranny of autos and cabs that commuters have had to succumb to reach their end destination. So, haggling could just be off the table.
The drivers will need to get their police verification done from a designated place. They will also be allocated a parking spot, along with an area where they can recharge the batteries. The rickshaws will be able to accommodate four people and travel within a 5-km radius. Delhi News
Smart-E, a flagship initiative of Treasure Vase Ventures (TVV), is collaborating with the DMRC on the project. Initially, 1,000 e-rickshaws will be launched at five Metro stations.
According to DMRC officials, the e-rickshaws will charge Rs 30 as individual fare and Rs 10 on a sharing basis. The e-rickshaws will be able to travel a distance of 100 km daily and will require eight to nine hours for the batteries to charge.

“The auto drivers know people hardly have any options for end travel, so they charge whatever they want. Hopefully, the situation will change,” remarked Alok Narayan, a resident of Sector 14.
“Our aim is to address the last-mile connectivity and with 1,000 e-rickshaws. Smart-E and the DMRC are working closely to enable Metro smart cards for Smart-E ride payments, and to push the concept of a ‘Common Mobility Card’,” confirmed Goldie Srivastava, co-founder and CEO of Smart-E.
