Monsoon showers have the residents planting saplings in society

Monsoon showers had the residents of United India Apartment, a cooperative group housing society in Mayur Vihar Phase 1 Extension, out on a drive to plant saplings of flower plants and fruit trees in and around the society.

The residents and their children planted the saplings in the park inside the complex and along the boundary wall on Sunday.
As skies opened up on Sunday morning, the residents waited for it to subside and then congregated in the complex park. Children, women and senior citizens came out and become a part of the campaign. The society’s gardner was also present on the occasion.
Saplings were planted in four gardens and around the boundary wall of the society. President of the managing committee, Purusottam Bhatt said, “200 saplings were brought from Delhi government’s nursery located near Millennium Bus Depot. We got these saplings free of cost. Saplings include different species of flowers and Neem, Amla and other fruit trees. Space was identified and pits were dug two days in advance.  I am happy residents came out in strength responding to an appeal by the society to make the society green and garden more beautiful,” he said. The society has four (three small size and one big size) fully green gardens which are dully maintained by the residents and two gardeners hired by the managing committee.
Bhatt added, “We did not invest much for this purpose. We got saplings free and we had enough organic fertilizer which we have generated through vegetable remains collected from the residents.”
