High-rises to sell waste paper to fund school furniture

In order to fund the procurement of furniture for a municipality-run primary school, AOAs of Ghaziabad have decided to initiate a pro-green procedure for collecting recyclable waste from societies, which will be sold to raise funds to get furniture for the school.

The initiative is being started under the aegis of FedAOA and Global Hunt Foundation, an NGO, on this World Environment Day, June 5. The participants, who are mostly AOAs, will collect waste such as newspapers, recyclable paper, magazines and books from their societies. The proceeds from their sale will be used to buy desks and benches for Kanauni Primary School, which is located between several high-rises in Ahinsa Khand II in Indirapuram.
Speaking to City Spidey, Alok Kumar, patron of FedAOA, said that the AOAs and societies are most of the time busy with their internal issues while students of this primary school study while sitting on mats inside classrooms.

“We are trying to do something to improve the condition of the school. The households in societies generate a considerable amount of paper waste that can be put to good use instead of being thrown away,” Kumar said.
Kumar added that such efforts are being put to regularise and organise the waste collection process in the societies.
Speaking to City Spidey, Mohammed Agha, an official of Global Hunt Foundation, said that the initiative is first of its kind and is an attempt at helping out the school.
