Dwarka: Sanitation goes south in Sec 8

Sanitation has become a major cause for concern for the RWA of Sector 8, Dwarka. The RWA complains that the mechanism for garbage collection and disposal by the municipal corporation is not up to mark.
PS  Dhunta, president of the RWA, says, “There is only one truck in the area and it lifts garbage in two rounds. But the quantity of garbage is more than what the corporation lifts every day. We need the truck to make six rounds. It means if we have three trucks for two rounds each, then there would be some visible change in the situation.”

The RWA also says that there is no facility from the corporation to collect garbage from the houses on the streets and it is demanding small vehicles or tippers for the purpose. “We also need small vehicles. They have been given to Bagdola village but not to our sector. We have raised the issue both in writing and in meetings,” adds Dhunta.
The RWA complains that the only sector that has independent plots and houses in Dwarka has no system of dumping garbage and designated places for the purpose. It says there are four places where garbage is dumped. Two are in block A and one is in block C and D. Block B has no such place. There are also no dustbins that have been provided by the corporation.
AS Chatwal, general secretary of the RWA, tells City Spidey, “There is only one dhalao [garbage collection point] for the entire sector, which is near the railway line. This is insufficient. We have been suffering for a long time and the corporation seems to have failed in this respect.”
Sanitation in the sector is also affected due to cow dung on the footpaths. According to the RWA, despite a prohibition of such nuisance by the Delhi Development Authority, footpaths are covered with cow dung. Dhunta says that the RWA had written several letters to the DDA regarding cow dung and waste management but nothing effective has happened on the ground level.
He says, “In a meeting with the officials and mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation, I had raised the issue of sanitation in the sector. They assured us of effective measures and we are waiting for that.”
