Gurgaon: Hope this makes MG Road safer for women...

The rising cases of eve-teasing and molestation on the MG Road, Gurgaon, has forced police to ramp up security on the stretch, especially during evenings and early mornings.

Saturday onwards, Gurgaon police will increase patrolling on the stretch, with 20 women constables, 25 police personnel and four PCR vans.

Vikas Kaushik, SHO Sector 29, said, “Although we have always patrolled this 1-km stretch, residents will definitely feel a difference from today. We have also doubled the PCR vans." gurgaon local news

The idea behind deploying women constables is ensuring that women find it easy to approach the police.

Sharing her horrifying experience with City Spidey, Ayushi Yadav, a resident of Sector 51, said, “My friends and I were at Pantaloons in Sahara Mall during last week's sale and we got a bit late coming back. We were waiting for an auto, when some cabs pulled up in front of us. The drivers started passing lewd comments at us. We decided to return to the mall and call our cousin to pick us up.” gurgaon news

Poor public transport in the city forces women to either book a private cab or take shared autos, which are usually overloaded with passengers. Even the women working in these malls feel unsafe using these autos.
Gurgaon police's action came after an incident last Friday, when two college students were taken for sex workers, harassed and and groped on MG Road.
