Residents of Uppal's Southend in Sector 49, Gurgaon, have some relief from power outages after the installation of three new transformers. Installed over the past three months by the builder, the transformers are able to take more load, giving relief to residents who can now use air-conditioners and other lifestyle gadgets.
Uppal's Southend, spread over 110 acres, was built in 2012. Over time, the occupancy increased and along with it the population. Also, the builder built more floors and sold them to people, resulting in an even greater number of residents, and increased use of electricity.
The old transformers, which were initially installed at the time when the township received its licence, could not cope with the rising demand and load.
“We used to observe that even with one air-conditioner, the voltage would fluctuate. We had to switch off and the heat was unbearable,” said Mithu Sinha, a resident of Block W.
It was after repeated follow-ups and frequent correspondence with the builders that the new transformers were installed. While two were installed in Block S, one was put up in Block W.
“These days the power situation has certainly improved,” said Sinha.
Speaking to City Spidey, Bhagat Singh, president of Uppal's Southend, said, “The increasing number of residents will require upgradation of the old transformers too.”
Last year, the RWA got all old transformers serviced, which slightly improved the power situation for residents.
