Waterlogging has been a niggling problem in Essel Tower, a society on MG Road. Repeated reminders to the authorities have borne no fruit.
One of the main reasons for waterlogging is the low level of the society. The structure is such that even during minor showers, the society is flooded with water. gurgaon local news
“The situation is so bad that we find it difficult to drive our sedans or hatchbacks through the water. SUVs manage because of their height, but most of us have had to pay hefty sums for car repairs because of this waterlogging,” said Rajeev Sinha, RWA president.
Some residents have even resorted to parking their cars on MG Road, instead of inside the society.
“Sewer water is hazardous to health. We have to resort to pumping water out for hours and then wait for the muck to dry,” added Sinha.
Another factor that adds to the problem is defunct stormwater drains on MG Road, which leads the water from the road to flow into the society.
“If the sewers are not cleaned, obviously they will not be able to discharge water properly,” said Devinder Sharma, a resident and a retired official of the Water Resources ministry. “In the absence of a technological solution, pumping is the only way out.”
Commenting on the issue, vice-president of Essel Housing Pvt Ltd, RK Aggarwal, said, “Since the society was designed almost a decade back, we need to see what the best solution to the problem can be.”
