Gurgaon: Girls outshine boys in CBSE Std XII results

Parents heaved a sigh of relief as the Central Board of Secondary Education declared its Std XII results on the morning of May 28. The Science and Commerce toppers in Gurgaon are girls from Amity International School (AIS), Sector 46, while in Humanities, 3 girls from Blue Bells Model School, Sector 4, and Delhi Public School, Sector 45, grabbed the top spot.

Anshika Pradhan, a 17-year-old science enthusiast, a resident of DLF Phase IV and a student of AIS, said she had never imagined that she would be the topper in the city. She did not take any coaching classes.
Speaking to City Spidey, Anshika said, “It was not an easy journey. I studied for 6 to 8 hours a day. I was regularly guided and supported by my school whenever I felt stuck.” Anshika now aspires to be a chemical engineer or take up computer science.
Nitya Chopra, an 18-year-old resident of Malibu Town, Sector 47, and another student of AIS, bagged the top spot in the commerce stream.  “I was extremely happy to know that out of the 5 subjects, I scored 100 in 3 of them namely, Business studies, Economics and Mathematics. Due to constant pressure of studies, I felt exhausted at one point of time. But then came the motivation from my parents and school, which played a huge role in my success,” she said.
While Amity International School students stole the show in Science and Commerce, students from Blue Bells Model School, Sector 4, and Delhi Public School, Sector 45, secured the top spot in Humanities. Saloni Chhabra from Blue Bells Model School, and Tanushka Lahiri and Simran Rawat from DPS shared the first position.
Speaking about her performance, Saloni said,“ I was expecting a good result but did not expect to be a Gurgaon topper. In the last few months, I gave almost 8 hours to studies. While I was burning the midnight oil, my mom was always ready with a cup of coffee for me.” She aspires to be an IAS.
“Initially, when I saw my English marks, I was a little disappointed but the remaining marks in the list made my day,” shared Tanushka Lahiri, who wants to be an entrepreneur.
Simran told City Spidey, “I am beyond elated. I was hoping for a good result and hope this happens to be one of many.” She wants to pursue journalism.
Meanwhile, Ashika Bothra, an AIS student and a resident of Vatika City, scored 97.7 per cent in Humanities and narrowly missed being the third topper. She said, “I am really happy with the result but my mom was in tears out of sheer joy.” A state basket ball player, she is a girl with multiple talents. She has now qualified for National Institute of Fashion Technology with a good rank and wishes to be an accessory designer.
When City Spidey spoke to Arti Chopra, principal of AIS, she said, “When we topped Humanities last year, it was our challenge to achieve the same in Science and Commerce too. This year, I am extremely happy to see our students bagging the top spots in both these streams.  I can see the consistency in performance of these girls.”
