Khelo India University Games in Gautam Budh Nagar Kick Off

 The Khelo India University Games were inaugurated on Tuesday at SVSP(Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik) Sports Complex, Gautam Budh Nagar. The official opening ceremony of the games will take place today.

On the occasion of this informal launch in Gautam Budh Nagar, the event started with a Kabaddi game. On Wednesday, the basketball game started along with the second day of Kabaddi competitions at SVSP Sports Complex in Gautam Budh Nagar while Malkhamb, volleyball, table tennis, rugby, football (boys and girls) and tennis will be played.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Kabaddi competition started with a small cultural program. In this function Uttar Pradesh Government, Public Works Department in-charge Minister Brijesh Singh, Member of Parliament of Gautam Budh Nagar Dr Mahesh Sharma,  Rajya Sabha member Surendra Nagar, District Panchayat of Gautam Budh Nagar President Amit Chowdhary as the chief guest, MLC Srichand Sharma, District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma, and Commissioner of Police Laxmi Singh were present.

A total of four Kabaddi matches were played in SVSP Sports Complex on Tuesday. In which the team of Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University, Jind defeated Atal Bihari Vajpayee University (ABVVU), Bilaspur by 28-41 in their opening league match of the women's section at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Indoor Sports Complex in Greater Noida.

In the women's second match, Himachal Pradesh University Shimla defeated Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Durg University by 51-29. Shimla University worked hard from the very beginning and took a 29-11 lead in the first half of the match. The Shimla team made sure of their victory by adding 22 points in the second half.

In the men’s Kabaddi section, Adamas University Kolkata put up a tough fight against Guru Kashi University, Talwandi. Two players of the Kolkata team were injured in the first round itself, due to which Kolkata lost 29-35. And in the men’s evening final match, Kota University won over SRM University, Chennai with a score of 28-23.

It is to be noted that in the Khelo India University Games, 2023, more than 4000 athletes will represent more than 200 universities in 21 types of sports. On Tuesday, at the beginning of the Kabaddi competition, the school children enthralled the audience by performing cultural performances.

Some of the athletes, including Paralympian and bronze medalist Varun Bhati, International wrestler Babita Nagar, Pro Kabaddi player of UP Yoddhas Ashish Nagar, and Ashu Singh took part in the inauguration.
