 Gone are the days when salads used to be boring. We, creative people, have come up with all sorts of new renditions of salads by fusing our favourite cuisines together. Spaghetti in general can be relished in a number of forms. But with the perfect choice of vegetables and dressing, it can taste even better and is more healthy.

Here are a few ideas to inspire you. Let us start with an easy and classic recipe:

Italian Spaghetti Salad

Ingredients: Cooked spaghetti, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, bell peppers, and red onions.

For the dressing: The base of the dressing is olive oil and lemon juice, combined with favourite herbs, spices such as black pepper and oregano, and parmesan cheese to make a zesty combination that is so much better than the store-bought variety.

Directions: Toss the spaghetti with the vegetables and dressing. The result is refreshing and hearty.  To increase the protein quotient, you can include chicken, eggs or tofu.

Spicy Tomato Spaghetti Salad

Ingredients: 1 package (7 ounces) spaghetti, 1 can (10 ounces) diced tomatoes with green chilies,  1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1/2 cup chopped pimiento-stuffed olives, 1/4 cup chopped celery, 1/4 cup chopped onion, 2 garlic cloves, minced, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin.

Directions: Boil the spaghetti according to package instructions. Meanwhile, combine the remaining ingredients in a large bowl. Drain spaghetti and rinse in cold water. Add to tomato mixture and toss. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

For the dressing: Italian salad dressing, parmesan cheese, sesame seeds, paprika, celery seed, garlic powder

Directions: Add cherry tomatoes, zucchini, cucumber, green and red bell pepper, red onion, and olives to the pasta in a large bowl, whisk together Italian salad dressing, parmesan cheese, sesame seeds, paprika, celery seed, and garlic powder. Toss the salad in dressing. Pour dressing over salad and toss until coated. Cover and refrigerate for 3 hours or overnight.
