Emojis have revolutionised the way we text. Due to the all-pervading nature of social media is everywhere and thus, everyone is texting all the time. Emojis are heavily used to express one’s emotions or emphasize on them. Emoji is a Japanese word that loosely translates to 'picture word'.
Emojis were first made by Shigetaka Kurita, a Japanese interface designer in 1999 while working for a Japanese telecom company NTT Docomo. In 2010, emojis came into the limelight after the invention of smartphones.
In 2007, iPhone was released and it had an emoji keyboard. This keyboard was created to target the Japanese audience. However, Americans liked these keyboards and it became popular in the US.
In 2014, Jeremy Burge, an emoji historian and founder of 'Emojipedia' declared 17th July as World Emoji Day and it was first celebrated in 2014. Emojis have become a very important part of texting and thus it is important to have your emojis game in check. Here are some of the emojis which are rarely used with their meaning-
Shooting star emoji
The shooting star is used to represent happiness. Sometimes, it is used in social media to express excitement. For example, someone is leaving for a holiday and cannot wait to reach the airport to get the flight. But the star in the emoji depicts something else. Its actual meaning is dizziness.
Pleading face emoji
The innocent look on the emoji seems like the person is about to cry. The real meaning of this emoji is that a person is pleading. Sometimes it represents when someone feels touched by a nice gesture.
Pinocchio emoji
We all know the story of Pinnochio. The character couldn’t lie as whenever he did, his nose would grow long. That’s exactly what this emoji is used for. It represents lying and dishonesty while chatting.
Disguised face emoji
This emoji is used when everything is not black and white while chatting. There are a lot of greys. It mainly depicts 'doubt’ or lack of trust.
Monocle
