The India Meteorological Department said that Delhi may receive light rainfall on Wednesday. It said that a small dry patch is expected over the weekend before the monsoon picks up pace again. From July 26, the city may receive another good spell of rain.
The city recorded 60.3 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am. It received 69.6 mm and 38.4mm rainfall on Sunday and Monday respectively.
With the rains on Monday and Tuesday, the rain-deficit has been covered in the national capital. The deficit was reduced from 39 per cent on Friday to three per cent on Monday. Northeast, south, and east Delhi are still in the category of rain-deficit districts.
In fact, the city has registered more than 150 mm rainfall after the onset of monsoon. However, the IMD said that the present spell of heavy rains is likely to subside from Wednesday onwards.
While the rains in the past two days have dropped the temperature significantly, the people also struggled to deal with water logging in many parts of the city. The underpasses were hit the most.
Following rains on Monday and Tuesday, traffic from at least 20 underpasses was diverted after they were all flooded with rainwater, Delhi traffic police officials said.
Apart from Pul Prahladpur, underpasses like Airport Road underpass, Narela-Lampur underpass, Mehrauli underpass, Zakhira underpass, National Highway-8 underpass, Mehram Nagar underpass and Azadpur underpass were impacted.
