Dwarka: Residents meet MLA and DJB officials on water crisis

Residents of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) pockets around Ashirvad Chowk met the area MLA, Gulab Singh Yadav, and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials to raise the ongoing water crisis in their pockets. RWA members from DDA SFS in Sector 5, Harmony Apartments in Sector 4, Surabhi Apartments in Sector 11 etc visited the MLA office with more than 50 residents from the societies.

General secretary of RWA, DDA SFS, Sector 5, Mahesh Gupta said that the problem aggravated since the alternate day supply arrangement in the area from the command tank.

“For more than a week, we received WhatsApp messages from the ward president Capt Shalini that the water supply would be on alternate days. It was said in the message that water was being diverted to different areas and hence the supply would be curtailed from regular to alternate day. Now we are facing the crisis and dependent on tanker supply. Apart from that, the supply of water has been erratic in the back lane for a long time due to infrastructural fault. Now with this alternate day supply arrangement, people living in the back lane flats have been facing the acute crisis. We have written to the concerned department but nothing effective happened. Today's meeting with the MLA is a ray of hope. Yet we are not sure about the solution,” Gupta said.

As said by Gupta, residents from different pockets visited the DJB office in Dwarka few days back as well but no one was present there. Now, they met the DJB officials and the MLA to get a solution to the problem.

Gupta shared about the requirement in front of the MLA. He said, “There is an underground reservoir (UGR) at Sector 4, from which we all get water. That UGR gets water from Command Tank 3 (CT3). Now the supply from CT3 to UGR is low and the scarcity is there. We have asked the officials and the MLA to ensure nine feet supply to the UGR everyday. We are hopeful yet not sure.”

The residents and the RWA members said that there must be a clear picture for the solution. General Secretary of RWA at Surabhi Apartments, Sector 11, Ashok Bhardwaj said that the answer from the DJB officials was not clear and there seems to be no solution soon. “We want solution only. At least, they should communicate a timeline for the solution,” said Bhardwaj.

Amrapali Zodiac: Residents dump garbage on road outside society

The residents of Amrapali Zodiac, a residential society in Sector 120, Noida on Sunday dumped garbage on a road outside the society. They did it to protest against non-collection of garbage from society in the last three days.

As per the residents, the garbage was dumped on the road to keep their houses clean. The agency which collects the garbage from Amrapali Zodiac is AG Enviro Infra Projects Pvt Ltd.

President of Amrapali Zodiac Social Welfare Association (AZSPA) Joginder Singh said, “The garbage was dumped at the road because it was not picked by the company. They are blackmailing us by demanding hiked rates. There is a 98 per cent rise in rates which is not justified. We can't accept the loot and don't accept the new rate. They had also sent the bill for seven months with increased rate on July 23.”

Singh also alleged that new rates were not communicated to them officially. He said that the agency officials had just communicated verbally.

CitySpidey also talked with the Assistant General Manager of AG Enviro Infra Projects Ltd Anuj Bhati, he said, “We are just following the orders of Noida Authority. REPLUG: Kargil hero gives real account of war to youths in a book

Today is Kargil Vijay Diwas which is a matter of pride for all the Indians. Two years back, CitySpidey had a talk with a Kargil War hero Col SC Tyagi. He talked about the Kargil War in details.

Here is the story which was published on July 26, 2019:

Col SC Tyagi, a resident of Paradise Apartments Sector 9, who himself is a Kargil War hero, has penned down his experiences of the indomitable valour of Indian Army doing what many would have thought it as unimaginable. The book 'The Kargil Victory: Battles from Peak to Peak' will soon be released by Gen Bipin Rawat, the chief of Army Staff.

Father of Pallavi and Shailvi, and husband of Poonam Tyagi, Col Tyagi is now a resident of Sector 9 in Dwarka. CitySpidey had a chat with him on his new book and his experiences in the battlefield during Kargil War.

His astounding story started when he, as a young boy, got selected in India's one of the most prestigious intitutes IIT Kanpur in 1971. But, affected by the war with Pakistan which happened in the same year, he decide to serve the Indian Army. He cracked the NDA exam and was selected in Indian Army.

Satish Chandra Tyagi, who later became Colonel Commandant, has also set up one of the unique Counter Terrorism School in Jammu and Kashmir close to Pulwama. He has already written a book on Kargil, 'The Fourth Estate: A Force Multiplier for the Army,' and has served in Sri Lanka against LTTE and now he is serving for the society as social worker in Dwarka and Uttar Pradesh.

Mission Kargil

Col Tyagi said, “I was hand picked by the Indian Army to set up a Counter Terrorism Institute in Kashmir. After the start of Kargil war I saw that my trained soldiers were going to the battlefield and therefore I decided to go to raise their morale and support them in the battlefield. Despite being suggested not to go, I decided to go. Every day in the battlefield, I used to go from post to post and in the night I used to write my own experiences and based on my interaction with the soldiers during the battle and even thereafter, the book has been written to inspire the younger generation of today who have since grown up.”

After the war Tyagi demanded an extension of one year to spend his time in the field to stay put there to contribute towards his mission of serving the nation upfront.

'The Kargil Victory: Battles from Peak to Peak'

Col SC Tyagi has authored the Himalayan showdown and brought it alive in the book and has narrated heroic actions of the soldiers in a manner that makes you feel you are actually in the battlefield along with him and fighting the war. The book is a page turner and reads like a war novel but is based on actual stories picked up by him in his interactions.

Col Tyagi shared, “I have spent my days and nights during the war in the battlefield. Once I insisted to stay in a tent at night and suddenly the flash flood came and swept away all my belongings. There was heavy bombardment outside but I managed to find shelter in a makeshift bunker tucked into the mountain.”

Most Touching Moments

Col Tyagi said, “I would rather call it inspiring moment, it was when a Grenadier battalion, on one of the peaks, was surrounded by Pakistanis and no one dared to replace the gunner on the machine gun, the first person to volunteer was the battalion Maulvi who was not even trained. He held against the Pakistani firing till the last.”

In another instance, a Sikh soldier, on Tiger Hill assault, was critically wounded and was breathing his last, when his Commanding Officer reached and put his hand on his forehead, the soldier who was not conscious suddenly woke up and said, “Sir, hun tussi aa gaye, ab mennu kuch nahin hona (sic).”

In one attack by our soldiers, they got stranded in snow and were exposed to Pakistanis sitting on top of the mountain, who started rolling down the boulders and firing at them. These soldiers from the NAGA Regiment created Igloos like the Eskimos and stayed put there for next ten days. They were supplied khichdi as food during the night.

Serving the society

After the retirement, Col Tyagi has inclined towards the social service and has started his mission as one man army. He has been training youths from Delhi to Meerut in making their career. Tyagi organises camps in the rural and underprivileged section of the society and trains youths free.

What he has learnt in the Army, he wants to give it to the youths to serve the society and the nation. “I have given training to almost hundreds of youths of poor section and many of them are now well settled. I want to carry on with my passion all through my life to serve the nation in that manner,” he concluded.

Shershah trailer is a complete patriotic ride

The trailer of ‘Shershah’ starring Siddharth Malhotra has dropped and it's bound to give you goosebumps. The movie is inspired by true incidents and is based on the Kargil hero, Captain Vikram Batra. Shershaah is  Amazon Prime Video's 37th direct-to-support movie in a brief time of 15 months. It’s a smart and deliberate decision to resonate the release of this movie with Independence Day.

Siddharth Malhotra as Captain Vikram Batra shines in the trailer. This could be a huge opportunity for this capable actor as he’ll be able to diversify his existing next door boy image with this very important role. Supporting him in the trailer is Kiara Advani as his love interest. Normally, there’d be complaints about the female leads not contributing enough to the script and just being there as eye candy, however, as this story revolves around the character of Shershah (code name of Captain Vikram Batra), it can be excused.

The dialogues have the right amount of cheese and Malhotra manages to not ‘overdeliver’ them to the extent of cringing. Again, Bollywood can not do without restricting to existing stereotypes. The supposed Pakistani characters have the same old accent with the same old dialogues and language.

One of the best parts about this trailer is it actually feels like a trailer and not a movie summary, which seems to be an issue with recent Bollywood trailers, take Ajay Devgn starrer Bhuj, Kriti Sanon starrer Mimi, Ankhay Kumar starrer Suryavanshi for example. These trailers just give away the entire plot of the film and don’t leave any surprise elements for the audience. Thankfully, that’s not the case with Shershah as it just gives an introduction and glimpse of what the film has to offer.

In a war film, you can always expect exciting music to accompany and justify the visuals and the trailer doesn’t disappoint in that either. The only disappointment is that this movie is clearly made for a theatrical release and watching it on a laptop or TV screen won’t be the same.

This movie is directed by Vishnu Varadhan and jointly produced by Kaash Entertainment and Dharma Productions. It will be available on August 12, 2021, on Amazon Prime Video.

A handmade greeting to Kargil bravehearts

Volunteers of Being Social Ek Nai Shuruat NGO expressed their love, respect and pride for the Kargil bravehearts through handmade cards. People from all age groups have taken part in this initiative.

"Through these handmade greeting cards, we honour the Armed Forces personnel who are guarding the national borders 24x7 under adverse conditions and the memory of the martyrs," said Praveen Kumar Shukla, founder of Being Social Ek Nai Shuruat.

Shukla said, “We initiated the initiative in 2019, since then we have sent more than 1000+ handmade greeting cards.”

Shrishti made 10 greeting cards this year, she said, “I have enveloped my whole soul through these greeting cards, all I want to say is we are safe and happy because of our bravehearts.”

During the Kargil war, the Indian Army evicted Pakistani intruders and succeeded in capturing Tiger hill and other posts as part of Operation Vijay. Kargil was fought between India and Pakistan between May and July 1999 in the Kargil district of Kashmir and along the Line of Control.

Dwarka: District admin felicitates e-rickshaw drivers for saving a life

The district administration has felicitated two persons for saving the life of a person whose neck was cut by a kite-string while he was riding his bike along with his wife in Dwarka. Sub-Divisional Magistrate, PR Gupta called e-rickshaw drivers Mohammad Sahil Qureshi and Deepak Chand and handed over the citation to them.

The SDM also encouraged people to help proactively in saving the lives of others. In the citation, he said that the district administration and the entire Dwarka appreciates the efforts of both of them.

On July 13, a resident of Studio Apartments in Sector 16B, Dalchand was going to make a spectacle for his wife. He was riding a bike with his wife. Suddenly, a kite-string cut his neck. His wife saw the blood trickling down.

She panicked and started calling people for help. Then two passing e-rickshaw drivers Mohammad Sahil Qureshi and Deepak Chand stopped and wrapped a towel on Dalchand's neck. They immediately took Dalchand to Venkateshwar Hospital in Sector 18, Dwarka. The doctors gave eight stitches to the cut. Dalchand's life was saved.

Ramesh Mumukshu, President of an NGO, Himalayan Institute of Multiple Alternative for Livelihood (HIMAL), who is also socially active, informed that he received a call from Dalchand's wife at around 5.30 pm.

Talking to CitySpidey, Mumukshu said, “Neelam (Dalchand's wife) was crying as she said that his husband's neck was cut by a kite-string. I asked about the hospital where he was admitted. I immediately went to the Venkateshwar Hospital. The doctor informed us that any delay would have proved fatal. The doctor said that the cut was not deep but blood was flowing out continuously.”

He further said, “It was a very unfortunate incident. These kinds of incidents happen frequently. The sales of kite-strings should be banned immediately. It is dangerous for people.”

Rug up your home décor!

Rugs have the ability to brighten up the room or any part of the house for that matter. Practically speaking, rugs can warm up a room, filter out air pollutants and reduce noise as well.

When it comes to home décor, rugs can make dull floors look nice without much effort. If you want to save yourself from the hassles of having a gigantic carpet, rugs are a go-to for you.

Look out at these different types of rugs that you can buy according to the aesthetics of your home:

Cotton rug

Credit: CitySpidey

Cotton rugs give a sleek look to the room. Keep it at the entrance of the home, kitchen, or bathroom and you will get that relaxing feeling in your feet when you step on it.

Whenever you buy cotton rugs, opt for geometric patterns and small-sized rugs. Buy machine wash material fabric as these rugs require regular washing.

Woolen rug

Credit: CitySpidey

Wool is a durable fiber and its rugs provide warmth to the legs in winters. Also, woolen rugs won’t require cleaning much often. Also, they tend to last for a longer time and are cost-effective.

Synthetic rug

Credit: CitySpidey

These are the most commonly used rugs and can resist stains and wear and tear for a longer period. They are available in both low and high price ranges.

Natural fiber rug

Credit: CitySpidey

Natural fiber rugs bring an organic look and neutral texture to the home décor, but these rugs are meant for houses with vintage aesthetics as they can add to the beauty of some homes.

Jute and bamboo rug

Jute and bamboo rugs can give a coastal vibe to your home's décor, but be careful with these rugs as stains on such rugs can be difficult to get rid of.

If you are thinking of placing these rugs in outdoor spaces, check if jute and bamboo can handle the outdoor exposure or not.

Faux fur rug

Credit: CitySpidey

Faux fur is a type of fabric that looks like real animal fur. They are made of acrylic and synthetic materials and are majorly meant for those who want the luxury of fur but do not want to harm animals. The disadvantage of this rug is that it is not easy to clean and can shred fur too.

Whenever you buy new rugs for your home, you can play with colours and patterns as long as they go with your desired aesthetics and you’ll see how just a simple piece of cloth can amp up the look of your home.

Brushing your teeth twice a day is not enough

The most common oral hygiene that we are all aware of is brushing our teeth twice a day. But do you think that is enough? The answer is no.

Brushing teeth twice a day is indeed important and should be done on a regular basis but a toothbrush cannot clean the area between your teeth. So, if you think you are taking care of your oral hygiene just by doing this then you are wrong. It is important to floss to avoid cavities.

How often should one floss?

According to the American Dental Association (ADA), one should floss once each day. Brushing teeth and flossing go hand-in-hand as they both help in removing plaque and bacteria from our teeth. The bacteria feed on the
leftover food between our teeth and causes cavities. They release an acid which can damage the outer shell of our teeth known as enamel.

According to a study, it is recommended to floss first and then go for brushing. As flossing first loosens up bacteria and debris which are loosely attached to the teeth. Lastly, brushing can help in tidying these fractions away.

Credit: CitySpidey

Use these to floss

Dental floss
Tiny flossing brushes
Powered air flossers
Pre-threaded flossers
Water flossers
Wooden or plastic picks
Dental tape

Make sure you brush twice a day and floss to take care of your dental hygiene.

Grooming — Essential before heading out to party

"Grooming is the secret of real elegance. The best clothes, the most wonderful jewels, the most glamorous beauty don't count without good grooming," said Christian Dior.

Simply wearing a nice dress, top, shirt, a saree, a lehenga or pant-suits is not enough now, you have to take care of tons of other things before heading out for a party.

Before clothes, you need to make sure that you have done your skincare regime, your nails are polished and hands manicured, your hair is washed and settled and a lot of so many other things. Such habits and grooming are just as important as what you choose to wear to a party.

To help all you women out, we have created a checklist you can follow before heading out to a party:

Hairstyle

Credit: CitySpidey

When your hair is semi-dry, apply a serum of your choice. Avoid applying serum on dry hair. If it is a big event, get your hair chopped at least a month before the party.

If your dress is over the top, keep your hairstyle simple. That should balance out the look.

Face cleansing

Credit: CitySpidey

Facial massage, upper lips, eye-brows threading, waxing or bleach should be done at least three to four days prior. After-effects of these treatments are redness, pimples and puffiness on the skin. If you do it on the day of the party, it is bound to spoil your look.

Good perfume

Credit: CitySpidey

Putting perfume is a must, especially before heading to a party. Avoid choosing a strong fragrance perfume, rather choose a sweet and fruity scent. Other scented notes like rose, floral, white floral, vanilla, woody, and sweet are a good option as they are pleasing. Make sure the perfume of your choice is long-lasting.

Clothes

Do not go overboard when going to a party. Pick up colours that suit your complexion and body type.

Two tips to follow:

Western: Pick elegant dresses with colours suitable to the occasion. Make sure you look chic with minimal effort and if you decide to go over the top, don’t be afraid.

Credit: CitySpidey

Ethnic: Avoid wearing heavy jewelry and high heels if not required. You will end up juggling these things and will not be able to enjoy the party.

Body touch up

Credit: CitySpidey

Make sure to cut your nails and polish them properly. Manicure and pedicure are essential before going to a party. Nail art should be normal yet classy. Avoid attaching too big or conical nail extensions while getting a nail art done.

This is how you can get a vibrant yet subtle look for a party. Women, party away to glory!

Mango with kale: Try this salad recipe at home

It's the mango season which means the fruit is not only juicy, it is also affordable. Everyone loves mangos and nothing tastes better than a mango salad on any given day. However, the secret to a fabulous mango salad is the combination of  flavours in the salad ingredients and fresh lime peanut dressing.

To turn your mango salad recipe into a nutrient-dense powerhouse of  ingredients, choose kale as a base before adding a bunch of colours and flavours.

Why kale?

According to Healthline, a health website, of all the super healthy greens, kale is king. It is definitely one of the healthiest and most nutritious plant foods in existence.

For instance, kale is loaded with all sorts of beneficial compounds, some of which have powerful medicinal properties. For example, kale is a popular vegetable and a member of the cabbage family. Like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, collard greens, and Brussels sprouts, kale is a cruciferous vegetable.

Vitamin A (important for eye and bone health and a strong immune system), vitamin C (aids in cold and chronic disease prevention), vitamin K (good for blood clotting and bone-building) and Folate, a B vitamin that’s key for brain development -- Alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid. Although kale has far less omega-3 than fish, it’s another way to get some of this healthy fat into your diet.

Lutein and zeaxanthin are nutrients that give kale its deep, dark green colour and protect against macular degeneration and cataracts. Kale also has minerals including phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and zinc.

Nutrients in kale can help you:
Lower cholesterol
Prevent cancer
Lose weight by filling you up with high water content but few calories
