Dwarka: The Delhi government, in association with the Akash Healthcare Super Hospital, is set to open a drive-through Covid vaccination booth, the national capital's first, at Vegas Mall in Dwarka locality. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to inaugurate the facility on May 26.
Facing an acute shortage of vaccines, the city administration has put on hold the drive to inoculate those aged above 18 years, forcing vaccination centres to remain closed.
Talking to Cityspidey Harish Kumar, a Dwarka citizen, said, "Drive-through is the best way to ensure that the people who are coming in their car with families do not get out of their cars. They can get their shot merely by sliding their window down. People don't have to interact with others in the whole process and can get real-time updates on the camp and availability of slots on Park+ app itself. This whole process takes a person about 5-7 minutes. We are trying to reduce this to 2-4 minutes to make the process faster."
Vegas Mall is located in Sector 14 of Dwarka, a South-West Delhi locality.
"Akash Healthcare has procured 30,000 doses of Covishield vaccine for the inoculation of the 18-44 age group at the centre. The vaccination will be given from 9 am to 5 pm. It's an initiative by the Delhi government and South West Delhi District Magistrate," a hospital spokesperson said.
"We will go slow at the start to avoid rush on the road and administer 40 to 50 doses for the initial few days," DM Naveen Aggarwal said.
The number of doses administered per day will be increased gradually to around 300 per day, he said.
