Delhi: Air quality improves slightly; likely to get better in coming days

There was a slight improvement in the air quality on Friday morning in Delhi. The hourly average air quality index (AQI) was 223 in ‘poor’ category at 7 am.

On Thursday, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) had recorded an AQI of 255 in ‘poor’ category in the national capital.

The AQI was 226 in the ‘poor’ category on Wednesday. On a scale of 0 to 500, a reading between 200 and 300 is considered poor.

As per the scientists, the wind speed is likely to increase significantly from Saturday. As a result, the air quality is also expected to improve further.

According to an India Metereological Department (IMD) official, parts of Delhi may receive light rain on January 9 and wind speed is likely to increase around 25 kmph, impacting the air quality positively.

“The AQI is likely to marginally improve and be in the ‘poor’ or ‘moderate’ range on January 9 and January 10. No sudden deterioration of AQI is expected in the next few days,” the Safar forecast read.
