Crossing the road at Mohan Nagar is no child's play for people as it is one of the busiest roads of Ghaziabad. Considering the threats caused by heavy vehicluar movement on the road, GDA is aiming to turn this tedious task into a cakewalk, especially for the residents living in the highrises, by constructing a FOB in the area.
The FOB will connect Parsvnath Paradise, a housing society in Mohan Nagar directly to World Square Mall. This bridge will be the first in Ghaziabad to be equipped with elevators on both the sides. It will connect to an existing FOB built at Madan Mohan Malviya Marg.
Built at a cost of Rs. 20 lakh, the FOB would be 150 meters long. Its construction was started in June and is expected to finish by September. Talking about the development of FOB, engineers of GDA said, “All the eight pillars have been raised. The steel parts to be installed in the FOB including the escalators are being furnished in a workshop. Once the fabrication of steel parts is done, we will fit them on the pillars.”
The new FOB will help the pedestrians to walk safely between the roads at Mohan Nagar square. It will also enable the residents to reach Mohan Nagar Metro Station without any trouble.
The Mohan Nagar Road has a giant square which serves as a junction to private and public vehicles travelling between Delhi, Meerut and interiors of Ghaziabad city. While Mohan Nagar Road connects North East Delhi to Ghaziabad and Meerut, Madan Mohan Malviya Marg, which falls perpendicular to Mohan Nagar Road, connects the area to Vasundhara, Vaishali and Anand Vihar in Delhi. This square is one of the busiest routes and vehicular traffic constantly runs here. It is also a bypass road taken by heavy transport vehicles during the night.
Besides, the square has many public amenities in its vicinity. It has a shopping mall and Mohan Nagar Metro Station which are just 100 meters away from each other on Mohan Nagar Road while at Madan Mohan Malviya Marg one can find buses and autorickshaws standing.
The presence of these amenities and an interlinking route between two cities lead to huge traffic in this area. It is very difficult for the pedestrians to cross the road. At times pedestrians have also hurt themselves while crossing the road. The new FOB will prevent all these problem and enable the residents to walk safely.
Apart, it will also make it easy for residents living in different colonies at Madan Mohan Malviya Marg to catch metro from Mohan Nagar Metro Station. Currently, residents are forced to catch metro from Arthala Metro Station.
“It’s risky to walk till Mohan Nagar Metro Station. We find it more convenient to catch metro from Arthala than Mohan Nagar Metro as the cut to reach mall is built half a kilometer away from the square. Boarding metro from Mohan Nagar is a highly complex task as we have to first take a U-turn, face heavy traffic and then reach the station. Once this FOB is open, I will prefer to board metro from Mohan Nagar than Arthala,” said Aditya Raj, a resident of Parsvnath Paradise.
