Noida police registers FIR against man for setting shop on fire at Sec 31

Noida police on Monday registered an FIR against a President of Residents Welfare Association (RWA) for setting a shop on fire recently in Sector 31. The act of setting the shop on fire was captured in the CCTV cameras installed in and out of the market.

According to Abhimanyu, owner of the shop, RWA President Sunil Shethi had set his shop on fire during the morning of June 29. The shop is in Royal Plaza market, Sector 31, behind which, Shethi reside at his home.

The complainant told the police that before setting his shop on fire, the accused had came to the shop to check whether the installed CCTV camera was operational or not.

He enquired from one of on-duty staffs whether the cameras are functional? The staff replied that they are not working. He went back to his home after getting the answer.

But the CCTV cameras were functional and the entire act was captured in the cameras.

Abhimanyu, who hails from the state of Odisha and has been doing business in Noida, told the police that big losses could have been incurred if a man from the Muslim community had not doused the fire in time.

On receiving complaint, the Sector 20 police station of Noida registered an FIR against Sunil Shethi under section 436 of IPC for setting the shop on fire. The accused is also facing charges under section 427 of IPC for causing damage to the stocks of the shop.

The police told that case has been registered and they are now investing the matter.
