More than 50 housekeeping staff at three high-rises of Shipra Estate Limited (SEL) in Indirapuram are on strike since Sunday after a continuous delayed salary.
A team of 50 workers and two supervisors employed in housekeeping divison of Shipra Krishna Vista, Shipra Srishti, and Shipra Neo have not received their salary for the month of June. “We were supposed to receive it by 10th of July. Then we were told that our salary will be credited by July 18. When we did not even receive it after the 18th, we decided to go on strike,” said a housekeeping staff.

When asked whether they questioned their employer for the delay, the workers said that even their employer has not received payment for more than two months. The housekeeping staff at these three housing societies are provided by BVG India Limited. The agency is in contract with SEL for housekeeping needs at these three housing projects.
CitySpidey contacted the office of BVG India Limted to verify the information. The officials did not comment on the claim of workers, however, they said that they are in talks with SEL to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
Due to inadequate cleaning and pick up of garbage, the residents of these societies are uncomfortable. They are blaming the builder for this situation. “Garbage has piled up and in the rainy season and it is inviting germs and diseases, all because of the builder,” said Dharamvir Singh, a resident of Shipra Krishna Vista.
Deepak Sethi, another resident of Shipra Krishna Vista said that it’s uncomfortable to watch garbage and dirt all around but builder has forced this situation upon the residents.
Preeti Shukla, a resident of Shipra Neo said that residents despite facing problems are in support of the housekeeping staff. “Only SEL is responsible for the problem,” she added. “Indeed we are disturbed due to dirty common spaces for last four days. However, we don’t blame the staff. SEL never fails to charge maintenance from residents by even a delay of an hour, and here, they have blocked payments for more than two months. This problem has been created by the builder himself.”
City Spidey spoke to Surinder Adhikari, facility manager of Shipra Estate Limited. He remarked that he is in Gujarat currently and refused to comment on the matter. However, another official told CitySpidey that SEL has not paid dues of more than two months to the housekeeping agency. “But we are trying clear the dues of the agency by early Thursday,” the official said on the condition of anonymity.
SEL has been notorious for suddenly terminating the contracts of security agencies or causing delay in the payments of security guards. On May 1, the day when the world commemorates the contribution of labourers, SEL had fired more than 25 guards in Shipra Neo after they had protested for not being paid for more than two months.
A similar case was reported from Shipra Krishna Vista a few months ago where again, the security guards had protested after not being paid.
