With an aim to ensure the safety of commuters moving on vehicle in the city, Gautam Budh Nagar police launched anti-liquor drive.
During hours-long drive which went till late night on Saturday, the police claimed to have arrested 474 persons for driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol or drinking at public places in different corners of the city.
“The arrests were made under a three-hour long anti-liquor campaign across the district that began at 7.30 pm,” said Vaibhav Krishna, SSP Gautam Budh Nagar.
Out of the total arrests, 241 were made in city areas, while 233 in rural areas, they said.
The operation has been given a name - ‘Operation Clean-6’ which was carried out against people consuming liquor at public spaces and those drinking outside liquor shops in violation of rules.
Breath analyser test was carried out at various places and 15 people were booked for drunk driving also.
As per the details from the police, as many as 52 check points were created across the district, including Noida and Greater Noida city areas, where the arrests were made.
“Arrested persons have been booked under the Indian Penal Code section 290 (public nuisance in cases not otherwise provided for) and section 34 of the Police Act (punishment for certain offences on roads),” said SSP.
