No respite from heat wave; Govt issues advisory asking people to stay indoors

The severe heat wave conditions across several parts of the country have made the government issue a health advisory on Monday asking people to wear loose, light-coloured cotton clothes, stay indoors and avoid drinking alcohol, tea, and coffee.

As per a report published in TOI, the advisory stated that the heatwave can cause adverse effects on human health and listed a series of Dos and Don’ts.

It advised people to avoid going out in the sun between 12 pm and 3 pm.

When outside, people should use an umbrella or cap or towel and frequently drink water and salted drinks like lassi, lemon water, fruit juice and ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution), recommended the advisory.

It further mentions that people should consume fruits such as watermelon, cucumber, and lemon. To cut down the effects of heat, people should take frequent showers and reduce room temperature by using curtains, fan, cooler and air conditioner.

Meanwhile, the heat wave continued to sweep several parts of the country with Churu in Rajasthan remaining the hottest place on Monday at 50.3 degrees Celsius.

The advisory mentions that person feeling unwell, especially old aged, young children, pregnant women, those with pre-existing medical conditions, and outdoor workers, should be immediately shifted to a cooler place, put on minimum clothing, be sponged with cold water, applied ice packs wrapped in cloth, and transported to nearest health facility.

The advisory stated that the heat wave conditions are prevailing at present over parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi.
