The large-scale felling was executed by owners of a proposed petrol pump. The NEFOWA members saw felling activities near Amrapali Mall opposite to the The Millenium School.

They immediately stopped the people from felling trees. But they were shown permission letter from the horticulture department. However, after examining the permission letter, they got to know that permission was given for felling of 56 trees.

But, they claimed that till the time intervention was done, approximately 500 trees had already been uprooted.

NEFOWA President, Abhishek Kumar said that he is keeping a close eye on the matter and he will be following up the development diligently. He was crestfallen as they have been raising the issue of deficient amount of trees and high amount of dust pollution in the area.

In fact, they have also planned an extensive plantation drive which will embark on July 7 in the area. They have set a target to plant 16,000 saplings of different species in the area.

Kumar said, “This is really heartbreaking to see such activities going on in the area. On one hand, we are making all sorts of efforts to plant as many trees as possible while on the other, we witness felling of existing trees. This should be immediately stopped. It would throw the ecological balance out of gear.”
