Kejriwal announces free travel for women on metro, DTC buses

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that women can have free travel on public transports like metro and DTC buses soon. The proposal, which is yet to be cleared by Centre, is expected to go on the floors in three months.

The CM said that the move has been taken keeping the women's safety in mind. “The move will cost Rs 700 crore to the Delhi government,” said Kejriwal.

The officers have been given a week's time to prepare a detailed report. On the basis of the report, a proposal will be brought in the cabinet.

However, Kejriwal also mentioned that the women who can afford the tickets will be allowed to buy tickets. “Those who can afford it, can buy tickets and forgo subsidy so others could benefit,” Kejriwal explained. Visitor Management system

Kejriwal added that the Delhi government is honest and is spending money on facilities and still running on profit.

In the recently conducted Lok Sabha elections, the Aam Aadmi Party had failed to win even a single seat out of the seven in Delhi. This was a huge setback for the party as they had swept the last assembly polls with 67 out of 70 seats in Delhi.
