In a bid to keep the city clean and green besides increasing the green cover across the state, the Gurugram Municipal Corporation (GMC) and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) are carrying out drives simultaneously.
A five-day awareness drive is being carried out in several parts of the city to keep a check on the ever-increasing menace of plastic.

Officials of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) have been conducting surprise raids on commercial complexes and penalising those who are found using, distributing, selling or hoarding plastic bags in the city. The drive will conclude on June 29.
The Gurugram Municipal Corporation (GMC) on the other hand, has announced an extensive plantation drive called 'Vision Green Gurugram'. It will be launched by state cabinet minister Rao Narbir Singh on July 14.

Under this scheme, 15 thousand medicinal and fruit plants will be planted during the monsoon season.
Additional commissioner of the corporation, Amit Khatri has appealed to the common people to join the campaign and said that efforts will be made to involve more people for the success of the campaign.
Besides, other organisations including Art of Living institute will also be linked to the program so that more and more plants can be planted in the rainy season.
The Gurugram Municipal Corporation has already started the preparations in this regard.
Officials of the civic body added that between July 21 and July 28, saplings will be planted on a large scale along the Jharsa dam spread over Malibu Town-Sheeshpal Vihar-Bhatika Chowk area and this area will be developed as Healing Forest Walk.
The proposal to install solar lights and making Gazebo out of wood and stones along the dam has also been put forward by the civic body.
