The community people on Wednesday celebrated the “World Environment Day” by organising various activities at different places in Dwarka. Different activities included painting competitions, plantation drives and series of awareness programmes on the occasion.
Various organisations operating in the city observed the day with all excitement. Residents Welfare Associations (RWAs) and managements of the different societies organised plantation activities within the premises of the societies, in parks and open areas.
A community plantation programme was organised by the DDA's horticulture department with the help of residents of various sectors at Rose Garden site in Sector 16C.
Children from various NGOs participated too in plantation and painting and poster making competition. A painting and poster making competition organised by Green Circle at Sector 9, Krishna Apartments.
Change I Network, an NGO planted saplings at Sector 3. Federation of RWAs and managements of societies in Sector 9 (FORWAS) organised a community tree plantation and adoption programme at Sector 9 DDA Park.
On the other hand, social organisation like Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi (SDKS) started its mission to plant 2,000 trees this monsoon till September. Member of SDKS informed that it started the drive from Wednesday and would continue with periodic plantation drive in the area. Besides plantation, they did a community cleaning drive in two MCD parks in Sector 22.
NGO like “Parmarthi – Ek Prayatna,” which has been making Dwarka clean with the help of the community people, also planted saplings on the occasion. Founder and a social activist Ravi Tandon with his team planted trees during the Sector 16C plantation drive organised by DDA.
