An active citizen of Raj Nagar Extension, Vikrant Hindon, on Thursday spotted large-scale burning of waste behind RKGIT College in the area. He said that the smoke was going towards residential societies like VVIP society, Aashiyana, Gulmohar and Delhi 6.
Hindon, who is also an environment lover, said, “The government is least interested about the waste burning. Ghaziabad is a big city where such kinds of waste burning should be controlled.”
He further said, “I have infomed the police and fire stations at Ghaziabad, Noida, New Delhi and Gurgaon. The authorities should focus on Ghaziabad as it is highly polluted.”
He stated that almost two-third of the city is highly polluted and does not come in the category of Swacch Bharat. As per him, only posh areas like Indirapuram, Raj Nagar and some other areas qualify for Swachh Bharat.
He concluded, “The fire is generally lit up by poor people. Later, it spreads and cause air pollution.”
When asked if NGOs are helping to control the situation, he said, “The NGOs are helpless without the support of police. The police just call the fire department to douse the fire.”
