With no action in sight from the Greater Noida Authority, a group of home buyers voluntarily came out with brooms and buckets to remove the thick layer of dust on the service lanes at Greater Noida West on Saturday.
The residents also hired a JCB machine to dig out dust from the service lanes. They invested hours to clean the lane which falls between Supertech Eco Village II and Panchsheel round circle.
Abhishek Kumar, president of Noida Extension Flats Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA) said that they had lodged several complaints with Greater Noida Authority and followed with them for removing dust from service lane. But they didn't respond to the complaints. “Finally, we have decided to do it ourselves,” Kumar added.
He said, “It was causing multiple problems for commuters and was prone to fatal accidents. While riding bikes through dusty service lanes, wheels of bike slip. The dust pollution was also bad for the health of the people residing in the area.”
Kumar said that home buyers, who have been commuting through these lanes, do not depend on civic agency and do the work at their own level. “It was only us who had to suffer in case of accidents. So, we decided to carry out the cleaning work all by ourselves,” he added.
While cleaning, they followed the norms for controlling dust pollution. They sprinkled water on dust to settle it down.
Kumar said that keeping the passerby and commuters' convenience in mind, we poured the water first. While the work was in progress, it didn't cause any problems either to commuters or also not to home-buyers who were cleaning the dust.
