The morning of coming Sunday is going to be different for Ghaziabad residents as back-to-back Raahgiri events are planned at two locations within a distance of 11 km. After Ahinsa Khand II, Rajnagar in Ghaziabad will also organise Raahgiri Day on April 7. Both the events will have election and voting as the main theme.
The event will have EVM machines on display with volunteers giving lessons on how to use it to the public gathered in the event, organisers told City Spidey.
“The motive is to promote 100% voting in the city in upcoming general elections,” said Rajat Agarwal, one of the organisers of the event.
The event will start at 6 am and run till 10 am at Central Park of Rajnagar.
Theatre artists will perform a street play emphasizing the importance of election and voting. Also, a painting competition dedicated to the theme of the event will be held.
Apart from that, aerobics, Zumba, yoga, cycling, art and craft competitions and other activities galore are also planned.
Participants of the event will also be able to avail of free health check-ups at the venue.
DM Ghaziabad, Ritu Maheshwari, who also happens to be the chief electoral officer of Ghaziabad district, will attend the event.
To register maximum voting in upcoming elections, district administration is going all out to appeal to the residents through every possible public event under Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme by Election Commission of India.
SVEEP is a programme of multi interventions through different modes and media designed to educate citizens, electors and voters about the electoral process in order to increase their awareness and participation.
The first phase of polling for Lok Sabha elections across Ghaziabad will be held on April 11.
