Members of the governing body of Dwarka Forum, a social organisation comprising RWAs and managing committees of the sub-city, on Tuesday met SK Muan Guite, deputy conservator of the forest department to discuss various forest-related issues across the area. They handed over a letter to the forest officer, stressing on the subject to protect forest areas across Dwarka.
Several issues like the current status of vacant land (particularly jungle), proper upkeep of roadside trees, which are being used for tying different wires and cables, were discussed in the meeting. Besides, guidelines for pruning of trees, covering traffic signals and street lights, were also discussed by both the parties.
P Menon, treasurer of Dwarka Forum and a resident of (Sector 12) Ashirvad Apartments said, “We discussed basically on the burning issues related to environment and which are under the jurisdiction of the Forest Department. The objective of the meeting was to save forest areas in the sub-city and its surroundings.”
Removal of trees from key spots like which are in the middle of the roads, turning points, crossings, intersections, etc was also suggested in the meeting.
Talking to City Spidey on the subject, V Selvarajan, president of Green Circle and a resident of Diamond Square Apartments (Sector 6) said, “We have requested the forest officer to number all the trees in entire Dwarka. We also drew his attention towards the rampant act of tying banners to the trees.”
Deputy Conservator, Forest (West) S K Muan Guite took note of all the points that were raised during the discussion. He assured the members of the Dwarka Forum of doing the needful.
