The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has issued notices to 70 private builders for non-payment of water bills. The builders have been asked to clear the dues by April 8.
If the builders fail to make payment in the stipulated time then police action will be taken against them. As well, their connection will also be discontinued.
This action was taken based on a survey which was conducted in September-October last year. These 70 builders had not made any payment in the last two years. Earlier, they were asked to clear dues by end of January. gurugram news
Talking to HT, GMDA Chief Engineer, Lalit Arora said, “The builders had not made payment in time. The matter was discussed in the Authority meeting which happened on March 6. Then, we sent ultimatum to the defaulters.”
All these builders have been using GMDA’s bulk water supply system. The system supplies approximately 400-410 million litres daily (MLD) treated canal water.
“Out of the 70 defaulters, 18 are major ones who defaulted Rs 5 lakh to Rs 1.25 crore. Moreover, Ansal API and Unitech Limited jointly defaulted Rs 2.5 crore of the total Rs 5 crore of dues,” added Arora.
Arora informed that there would be tough action if the builders fail to make payment this time. He said, “According to the GMDA gazette notification, we can attach the builders’ bank accounts to recover the amount.”
However, Senior Vice President with Ansal API, Abhishek Aggarwal said, “Colonies like Palam Vihar and Sushant Lok 1 are being taken care of by the Residents Welfare Associations (RWAs). We have no role in the outstanding dues.”
