A 33-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday by the Dwarka police in the hit-and-run case in which the head constable of Sector 23 police station had died. Guljari Lal (52) was hit by a speeding vehicle at Sector 21 police picket early morning on Thursday at around 1 am.
According to the police, the accused, Nagesh Kapoor, is a resident of Gopi Apartments in Pochanpur Village, Dwarka. Though he originally belonged to Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
DCP of Dwarka, Anto Alphonse, said that the accused told them that he was coming from Gurgaon after meeting his friends at around 01:00 AM when the police personnel present at the picket tried to stop him for checking. He got scared and tried to escape and hit the barricades which fell on constable Lal who later succumbed to the injuries.
“We received an input that a damaged Baleno car was taken to a repair shop in Pochanpur Village. Our teams located in the area were alerted and arrested the accused,” said DCP.
The police said that the accused works at Harley Davidson Showroom at Mayapuri and had purchased the car about eight months back. He has done his MBA from Saharanpur and his father works in a bank.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was taken to his native place, Kothputli in Alwar. He was given a 'Guard of Honour' at the time of his last rites, said the DCP.
