The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has announced that the commuters can now use their Aadhaar Card as a valid document to get smart card.
The officials informed that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given its nod for usage of Aadhaar Card for KYC (Know Your Customer) process ahead of buying the smart card.
Earlier, only driving licence and voter ID card were accepted for buying smart card. People above the age of 18 years could only buy the smart card as these IDs were issued to them only. Now, anyone having Aadhaar Card can buy the smart card at Noida Metro.
An NMRC official said that they had requested SBI to talk with RBI for allowing Aadhaar Card as valid ID proof. They felt the ridership at Metro stations, where there is big population of students, could have got a hit in absence of Aadhaar Card as valid ID proof.
The officials are also mulling introduction of a mobile application dedicated for booking of tickets on Aqua Line. This would make commuters life easy as they will not be required to stand in long queue to get the ticket.
PD Upadhyay, executive director, NMRC, informed that they would be launching the mobile application soon to facilitate ease travel for commuters.
