Greater Noida Authority to construct public toilets in city

The Greater Noida Authority is going to construct public toilets in the city. The responsibility for constructing and running it will be given private companies.

As per an official of the Greater Noida Authority, there are only 5 e-toilets and 15 general public toilets in the city. He said that there are many places where there is an urgent need for toilets.

“Due to lack of a sufficient number of toilets, people use open areas. This makes people vulnerable to diseases. It also makes the wall dirty. The Authority is busy in ascertaining the number of toilets needed in the area. The survey to find the required number of toilets will soon start,” he said.

Different private firms will invest the money in the construction of these toilets on a build operate transfer (BOT) basis. “The agency will recover this amount by using the space for advertising at the toilets for 10 years. It will use 250 sqft area of the toilet for the advertisement,” the official said.

“The private agency will operate and maintain these toilets. Once the time period is over, the authority will receive advertising rights on the space available around the toilets,” he added.

A resident of Noida Extension, Seema Chaudhary said, “The Greater Noida Authority has failed to maintain the present public toilets properly. Bad smells emanate from these toilets and they are in very bad shape. It is now a challenge for the Authority to maintain new toilets. They should do it so that people don’t hesitate to use it.”

On the other hand, the Noida authority made 84 public toilets in the city and declared the city Open Defecation Free (ODF) on October 2, 2018.
