The deceased, Narayan Shinde, was originally from Maharashtra and had been living alone in the house for the past many years, said the police. His wife Madhuri Shinde, a retired employee of NITI Aayog, lives in Sector 34 in Noida.

According to the residents of the society, a group of senior citizens, who were also Shinde’s friends, had become alarmed after he had failed to join them for their daily meetings in the park over the past few days. They had even tried to call him on his mobile, but the calls went unanswered.

A resident of the LSG society told City Spidey that Shinde lived alone in his flat number A/37. “On Wednesday morning, we noticed some foul smell coming out of the house. When we knocked on the door, no one answered. This is when someone managed to see through a window located towards the back of the house and saw Shinde hanging from ceiling fan,” said the resident.

A senior police official said, “We had to break the main door of the house to get inside where we found Shinde hanging from ceiling fan. The body has been sent for postmortem.”

The officer also informed that during the search an envelope was recovered from the house. “There was a suicide note in it with mobile number of his family members. He had written that he was ending his life,” said police.

According to the police Shinde earlier lived in Vasant Vihar in Delhi, while his wife and daughter lived in Noida. He had lost his job back then and had to sell off his house in Delhi. He later shifted to Greater Noida and started living alone.
