New pin code, sub post office bring cheer to Greater Noida residents

The inauguration of a designated sub post office and allotment of postal index number (pin) code for Greater Noida West on Monday brought cheer to the residents of the area who have been facing hassles in getting their legal or necessary documents delivered.

Apart from allotting a separate pin code (201318), the postal department also demarcated field areas for seven postmen who would be covering the different areas.

Rakesh Raina, a senior official with postal department (Greater Noida) told City Spidey that, a few societies haven’t been mentioned in the list but that does not mean that this PIN code will not apply to them. This pin code will cover the entire Greater Noida West.”

The new sub-post office, which has been set up in Sector 1 Greater Noida, will put an end to the endless wait the residents had to endure to get their post delivered. “Hopefully, now postmen and courier service staff will not get confused in locating our societies,” said Vikash Kumar, a resident of Panchsheel Greens.

Residents of high-rises in the area will now be able to mention the PIN code of their area at the time of flat registration. So far, the registry of any flat was being done without mentioning the PIN code.

“In the past, whenever we approached the two post offices—one in Surajpur, Greater Noida and the other in Crossings  Republik in Ghaziabad—to enquire about our undelivered mail, they always had the same excuse saying they were waiting for few more posts so that everything could be delivered in one go. Hopefully, these excuses will end now,” added Kumar.

The sub-post office will also allow the residents to use postal banking facilities, for which they earlier had to go to Ghaziabad or Noida.

So far the residents of Greater Noida West have been using dependent temporary PIN codes of surrounding areas, which often caused confusion.

Narrating one such incident, Pallavi Gogoi Konvar, another resident of Panchsheel Greens, said, “Around six months back, I lost my ATM card and applied for a new one. But had to run from one post office to another to get it delivered but they just couldn’t trace it. Finally, I asked them to return it to the bank from where I could collect it.”

The demand for a separate PIN code and designated post office started way back in 2015 when the first set of residents started coming in at Gaur City and other high rises. The area is home to nearly 60,000 -70,000 people now with more than two lakh yet to come in.

Manish Kumar, who has been steadily raising the issue in the past, said, “We had complained about the matter to local politicians and authorities. We even launched a campaign on social networking site Twitter and filed RTI. Finally, our demand has been fulfilled,” Kumar said.
