NMRC plans e-rickshaws for last mile connectivity to residents

The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has proposed to run e-rickshaws to provide last mile connectivity for the residents from their societies to the nearby metro stations.

NMRC’s Aqua Line Metro service, which has 21 stations between Noida Sector 71 to Delta 1 in Greater Noida, is likely to be made operational for commuters by the end of this year.

“Smart e-rickshaws would provide last mile connectivity to residents of high-rises. We are in the process of finalising bidder for this purpose,” said a senior NMRC official.

Many societies like Poorvanchal Royal Park, Supertech Ecociti, Logix Blossom County, Paras Tierea, Ajnara Daffodil, Paramount Blossom County, Exotic Fresco Gulshan Vivante and many others are located in the range of one and a half kilometres from the nearest metro station at Noida Sector 137.

The new Aqua Line Metro service would be close to the people residing in high rises at sectors 135, 137, and 148. Noida News

But, running e-rickshaws for the residents of societies which are 8-10 km away from Metro station would not be feasible.

For instance, the societies in Greater Noida West such as Gaur City are around 10 km away from the nearest Noida City Centre station. On the other hand, the new metro station on Aqua line stretch is 7-8 km away.

“E-rickshaws would not be feasible for us. It would be taxing to travel 10 km on e-rickshaw? It would be better if NMRC runs few buses to provide us last mile connectivity,” said a resident of Gaur City’s Fifth Avenue.
