Residents of Amrapali Village in I'puram to stage mass protests on October 21

With little headway in the construction of a connecting road to NH 24, the residents of Amrapali Village in Indirapuram will stage a mass protest at NH 24 on October 21.

The residents spoke of the mass protests during a meeting held yesterday with Sabibabad MLA Sunil Sharma.  Indirapuram News

Besides the issue of road construction, residents also complained to Kumar about a plastic-dumping site at the back of the society.

They said in the event of strong winds their society gets filled with plastic waste. Also, during rains, the stench emanating from the ground makes life difficult for the residents.

Maheshwaran Nair, secretary of Amrapali Village Residents’ Welfare Association (AVRWA), informed City Spidey that residents will form a human chain and stage dharna on NH 24 to press for their demands.

Sharma assured residents that he will escalate their concerns to the GDA.

While speaking to City Spidey, Sharma said the matter is rather complicated and he'll send a covering letter to the authority.

For the last four years, the residents have been waiting for the construction of a road — sanctioned by the GDA — that would connect the society directly to NH 24. However, the biggest challenge remains acquisition of a private land that lies between the society and NH 24. The builder had promised earlier to acquire the land and build the road through it. Later, the proposition of constructing a service road from UP Gate till the society came from the GDA itself.

The construction of service road was stopped 800 meters before the society owing to the unavailability of the land. Soon after, the builder left as well.

Both the GDA and builder failed to acquire the land, which is being used as plastic dump yard where sorting for the recycling happens

As a result, the residents are now forced to use a cemented road to Kala Patthar to finally reach NH 24.

VN Singh, chief engineer of GDA, confirmed, “The only way to build the road is through that land, but the matter is stuck because the private owner wants an exorbitant amount for the land.”
