Tired of the indifferent attitude of civic authorities, the residents of several societies in Sector 7, Dwarka, have taken upon themselves to look after the civic issues in the area.
The residents have formed a welfare group that will follow up on various issues like sanitation, infrastructure and law and order with the concerned agencies. At present, the group will look after 12 societies in the area.
To start with, the group has started informing the residents about the work being done by them. They are also urging the residents to contact them to get their concerns resolved. Anurag Bahl, one of the members of the group and a resident of Suruchi Apartments in Sector 7, said, “We are coordinating with civic bodies and their staff on different concerns of the residents. Positive changes can already be seen in sanitation issues and conditions of the parks around the 12 societies that have been chosen for the initiative.”
The group has been carrying a regular cleanliness drive at public places in Sector 7 in association with NGO Parmarthi. Anurag shared, “We all voluntarily work every month with Paramarthi to clean the area. We also organise regular interactive sessions of the residents with Delhi Police and other authorities.”
One of the key areas that the group looks after is the garbage disposal in the area. In case of any issues, the matter is promptly reported to the higher officials. President of Sri Ganesh Apartments and a member of the group PR Rathi said, “Our main objective is to find out where the system is going wrong and improve our own civic approach.”
The group has even made a list of points to be kept in mind by both the residents as well as civic authorities to enhance the cleanliness quotient of the area, like dustbins in the public places must be cleared on daily basis, sweeping of dust on the roads must be done every day and cleaning of blocked drains must be done periodically.
Meanwhile, secretary of Media Apartments and a member of the welfare group PP Wangchuk urged the people to come forward and participate in the drive for a better tomorrow.
