Environmentalist knocks NGT’s door against felling of trees for park in Noida

Environmentalists along with Noida residents are trying hard to save the forest area in Sector-91 from being converted into a Biodiversity park. Now, an environmentalist Vikrant Tongad has appealed in National Green Tribunal (NGT) to save the forest. Dwarka News

Tongad approached the NGT after being dissatisfied with the action of the authority and the forest department.

“We have no option but to go to NGT as the authority has turned a deaf ear towards our concerns and pleas. To save the environment, we are left with no other option,” said petitioner Tongad.

The application seeks to bring in notice the blatant violation of the environmental laws particularly felling of approximately 3,000 old grown trees and imminent threat of further felling of additional 10,000 trees for development of a bio-diversity park.

The application highlights that the felling of trees by Noida Authority is in complete violation of Environment Protection Act, 1986 (EPA), the Biodiversity Act, 2002 and the orders of NGT.

The hearing in the case will happen on Friday.

Environmentalists and nearby residents are angry and protesting against the authority’s decision to make a bio-diversity park with amenities like amphitheatre, swimming pool and food court in Sector-91. The authority has already felled 2,888 eucalyptus trees for the same.
