Dwarka puppy case: Police now investigating CCTV evidence

On Monday, seven puppies were stabbed to death and their bodies, in a morbid spectacle, were laid out in a pattern in front of the community centre of Kargil Apartments in Sector 18, Dwarka. The police is now scrutinising the CCTV footage gathered from personal cameras installed by residents, as the area has no CCTV cameras.   Dwarka News

Pratibha Singh, a resident of the society and a dog lover, said, “There are no CCTV cameras in this area, police is looking for footage from personal cameras installed outside homes. We’ll hopefully get some clues.”

According to Dwarka ACP Rajender Singh, “The post-mortem report, which came in yesterday, says the puppies were attacked with a sharp weapon, which caused excessive bleeding. This caused a heart failure.”

He added that the case is being dealt under Section 429 of the IPC [mischief by killing or maiming cattle or any animal of the value of Rs 50... will invite punishment of imprisonment for a term which may extend to five years, or with fine, or with both] and Section 11L of the Prevention of Animal Cruelty Act.

A resident of the society and a member of Dwarka Animal Lovers’ Society (DALS), Hema Meel, had shared photographs of the incident in her Facebook post. Her post read: “See we human call ourself so civilised and educated. The case of Kargil Apartment Sector 18A Dwarka where people were so annoyed with these puppies so they killed all of them.”

She is also assisting the police in the investigation.
